KEYS TO UNDERSTANDING
MAPS: Look at the map on the previous
lesson and find the cities named in this chapter.
Zeus (Jupiter) and Hermes
(Mercury): These were gods of the Greeks and
Romans. Zeus (Jupiter) was chief of the gods and
Hermes (Mercury) was their messenger.
Elders: Men appointed by Paul and Barnabas in each
church. Older men had always been prominent in the
government of the Jews and in the synagogues. Elders
of churches must have qualifications listed in Titus 1:5-9
and First Timothy 3:1-7. Elders were also called
Bishops (See Acts 20:17,28).
