CONTENTS OF THE CHAPTER When Paul returned to
Ephesus on his third tour, he had another encouraging
reception. Twelve men who had been baptized according to
John's teaching were baptized again, this time in the name of
Jesus Christ. When opposition arose in the synagogue,
Paul spoke daily in a school lecture hall and all in the
province of Asia heard the gospel. Seven Jews tried, to
their embarrassment, to duplicate Paul's miracles and many
converts burned their old books of sorcery, worth over a
million dollars in today's money. However, a riot
stirred by the idol worshipers caused Paul to have to leave
Ephesus. While Paul was in Ephesus he wrote a letter back
to the church in Corinth. It is the book of the New
Testament which we call First Corinthians. Soon after he
left Ephesus he wrote Second Corinthians.
