KEYS TO UNDERSTANDING
Temple: The very
beautiful building which dominated the city of Jerusalem and
served as the center of worship for all Jews. Though
it was very small, it was surrounded by a very large plaza
in which the people gathered, especially at the hours of
morning and evening sacrifices.
The 9th hour: 3 p.m., hour of
evening sacrifice.
Solomon's Porch: A very large
columned portico or roofed area at the eastern end of the
temple plaza. Here thousands could gather protected
from sun and rain.
CONTENTS OF THE
CHAPTER
Going to the temple one afternoon, the apostles, Peter and
John, passed by the gate where a lame man was laid daily to
beg for money. He hoped they would give him money but
instead, Peter healed him. This healing excited the people
who saw it and they ran together into Solomon's Porch.
Peter saw this as another opportunity to preach about
Jesus. He told the people that even though they had made
a great mistake in crucifying Jesus, God had raised Him from
the dead and was willing to forgive them if they would repent
(change their minds) and turn to obey Jesus.
